Australia is a fire continent with a culture to match. It has institutions to study fire…literature, folklore, arts and collectables of fire Australians have many experiences of fire…51 major fires in the last 8 years. 

Fire has changed in the last 20 years - they are worse, more frequent, more eruptive and more damaging. Now the current fire has topped the charts.

Who’s to blame

Are there environmental reasons for the bad cases of fire? Global Warming? 

Scientists and fire chiefs have warned about this for years. The last major report done 10 years ago specifically mentioned this kind of situation happening in 2020. Fire service requested funding for more aerial water bombers 18 months ago and were ignored; fire chiefs were requesting meetings with the prime minister since last April as they had major concerns that this fire season would be a bad one and were ignored.  

Australian's early settlers and the governments have historically been blatantly disrespectful and inhumane with their treatment of the Indigenous customs and natives. 

Did they go too far mistreating the natives?

Is the fire a nature's revenge for inhumane conducts?

Relevant historical background:

The history of Indigenous Australians began at least 65,000 years ago. For thousands of years, the Aboriginal people of Australia have held highest wisdom when it came to fire and often acted out ancient traditions such as ‘Back Burning’. This particular custom meant that they would regularly burn certain areas of the land at varied seasons to keep the ground, trees and plants under healthy control and free from potential fire hazards, as well as keep their native animals safe.  

This traditional practice would be done by reading their land intensely and having a healthy relationship with their mother land to avoid fire threats occurring in their country.  

Many old Indigenous customs imbedded in their culture for thousands of years have since been sadly taken away from many elders and tribes.  

Aboriginal spirituality is defined at the core of Aboriginal being, their very identity. It gives meaning to all aspects of life including relationships with one another and the environment. All objects are living and share the same soul and spirit as Aboriginals. 

There is a deep kinship with the environment and mother earth, and an honored responsibility to listen, learn and live in respectful relationship with one another and the land.
