If you look at your life, there's always a pattern. When people want to change their lives, they look at specific life events, and they always pinpoint a specific event that changed the course of their lives, "If it wasn't for this, that would have happened, or I wouldn't be this person." You hear it all the time with highly successful people… “This one event changed my life”.

It's not the event; it's the pattern, and here's the difference. There are usually one or two patterns that people run. You might think your marriage is different than your career, and your career is different from who you are as a man or a woman, and who you are as a man or woman is different than your religious beliefs, non-beliefs and so on – but it's all the same.

It's a single pattern that dictates every aspect of your life, right down to the way you brush your teeth – it's the same pattern. Those patterns turn into single distortions and if you put them together and look at your life events, there is a general essence that comes through.

If you add those life events together, you'll start to see that those events create the pattern of your life. One event builds on the other, but again, it's the similar patterns. You'll see that it's a pattern happening to you, not a single event. Most people pinpoint a single event: they got married, divorced, got pregnant, got abused – again, these are the patterns that you're running, which is a series of distortions that you're running.

You can't remove the life events that form your distortions, and you can't remove that experience. It's written in time; it's written in your history. You can't change what happened.
